Best Things To Do In Hilton Head With Toddlers
1. Visit The Sandbox Children’s Museum
The Sandbox Children’s Museum is a definite stop during your trip to Hilton Head with a toddler.
There are a variety of opportunities for hands-on play!
- Pretend play – your little one can pretend to sail a boat, pilot a plane, or make food at the cafe.
- Get creative with the vertical Lego wall or enjoy arts and crafts.
- Sensory play including bubbles, an actual sandbox, and floor tiles that change color when touched.
- Outdoor play – run through the pool noodle forest, play musical instruments, draw on the chalkboard, and enjoy the sensory garden.
Strollers are not allowed in the museum. If you are visiting with a young child, there is a play area designed for them to explore with age-appropriate toys.
You can spend about 45 – 60 minutes at the museum. The activities didn’t keep our 2-year-old’s attention as much as other children’s museums we’ve visited. However, it is still worth a visit and is a great option for a rainy day.
The Sandbox is located in Lowcountry Celebration Park, so plenty of free parking is available. Additionally, it is close to Coligny Plaza Shopping Center and Coligny Beach Park so there is plenty to do nearby.
2. Explore Lawton Stables
Whether you are staying in Sea Pines or enjoying some time there during your trip, you will want to take your toddler to Lawton Stables.
Lawton Stables in Sea Pines has an animal farm that your little one will love! They have goats, cows, donkeys, pigs, chickens, alpacas, and horses. Your little one will have a great time watching the animals and can feed them too.
Your toddler can also go on a pony ride. There is a small track around the animal farm for a quick ride.
If you aren’t staying in Sea Pines, you will have to purchase a visitor pass to get into the community.
You can spend about 30 – 60 minutes exploring Lawton Stables. The animal farm is small enough that you don’t need a stroller, plus it is a little tricky to steer a stroller over uneven ground and through tight walkways.
3. Take a day trip to Savannah
Savannah is only about an hour’s drive from Hilton Head, making it a great day trip.
When visiting Savannah, you will need to stop by the Savannah Children’s Museum.
- Outdoor museum so plan your visit when the weather is nice
- Free parking onsite
- Stroller friendly – there is a little walk to get to the museum from the parking lot so we took a stroller. The museum had stroller parking so it was easy to leave our stroller once we got to the museum.
- Restrooms – there is a bathroom as well as a changing area which is super convenient.
The museum has many activities for a toddler so plan to be there for at least 90 minutes to 2 hours.
- Find your way through Exploration Maze
- Enjoy arts and crafts, and paint with water
- Perform a puppet show or read a book
- Build with foam or wooden blocks
- Race down the slides
- Tend the garden
- Water table where you can watch boats float and discover sea creatures
While in Savannah, you can also walk along River Street to watch the boats and people watch. Or explore one of the city’s great parks, such as Forsyth Park.
4. Enjoy a playground on Hilton Head
Anything that keeps a toddler busy and burns some energy is always a win. Hilton Head has several great playgrounds to explore with your little one.
Gregg Russell Playground
- Located at Harbour Town in Sea Pines.
- Toddler-friendly – the whole playground is toddler-friendly, but there are a few play areas specifically designed for little kiddos.
- The ground at the playground is sand so you want to plan your footwear accordingly.
- Plenty of free parking and things to do in Harbour Town.
Adventure Playground at Lowcountry Celebration Park
- Located near Coligny Beach
- Toddler-friendly – your toddler can explore the whole playground, but there is a toddler area with smaller play equipment.
- The ground at the playground is rubber, but there is sand in some areas.
- Plenty of free parking and you can walk to the amenities at Coligny Plaza and Coligny Beach Park.
5. Walk Around Harbour Town
Harbour Town in Sea Pines is a great place to explore with your toddler.
While the shops and restaurants may not keep your little one entertained, watching the boats in the marina will get them excited.
If you walk out on the pier, you can watch the boats, paddleboarders, and kayakers. You may also spot some dolphins!
You can also walk along the beach and find some great seashells to take home as souvenirs!
